A CIS accountant who knows the trades.
Builders, bricklayers, plumbers, electricians, joiners, roofers, plasterers, groundworkers, decorators: if you work in construction, the Construction Industry Scheme affects how you get paid and how you pay others. I look after CIS for contractors and subcontractors in Suffolk and across the UK, so you can stay on site.
CIS for subcontractors
Most subcontractors have tax taken off before they are paid: 20% if you’re registered for CIS, or 30% if you’re not.
Getting registered
Register for CIS so the lower 20% rate is deducted instead of 30%, and check whether you could qualify for gross payment status.
Claiming it back
CIS deductions count towards your tax bill. I make sure every deduction is claimed on your return, which often means a refund.
Statements kept tidy
Your monthly CIS statements and site receipts kept in order in Xero and Apron, so nothing goes missing at year end.
CIS for contractors
If you pay subcontractors for construction work, you have monthly responsibilities to HMRC.
Verifying subcontractors
Checking each subcontractor with HMRC so you deduct the right rate.
Monthly CIS returns
Your CIS return filed and deductions paid on time each month, with the 19th of the month as the return deadline, including nil returns where needed.
Payment and deduction statements
Statements prepared for your subcontractors, so they have what they need for their own tax returns.

CIS questions
Can I get my CIS deductions back?
Often, yes. CIS deductions are an advance payment towards your tax and National Insurance. If more has been deducted than you owe, the difference can be refunded once your return is filed.
I’m a limited company subcontractor. Is it different?
Yes. Limited companies offset CIS deductions through their payroll submissions to HMRC rather than a self assessment return. I can handle that for you.
Do you only work with Suffolk trades?
No. I’m based in Sudbury and work with local trades, but I support construction businesses across the UK.
I’ve missed some CIS returns. Can you help?
Yes, with no judgement. I’ll help get you up to date and back on track with HMRC.
